A short post about why I love budget Monster High dolls more than deluxe dolls. Oh, and other stuff.

So.....did I ever say how big of a fan I am of Monster High dolls? I don't think I have. (Well, this is my second post, so.....no.) Okay, story time.
I can say, back when I was a kid I wasn't a big fan of dolls. Yeah, sure, I had some Bratz (Which would creep me out due to their detaching feet.) and some Barbies (I even had a castle.), but I preferred Pokemon and Yu Gi Oh! I didn't really like girl toys. But....
Back sometime in late 2012, an old friend of mine (Who is no longer my friend.) and I were just bored in Walmart, so we went to the kids isles and came across the MH section. My friend didn't like them, and always called them 'whore dolls'. (I do have to admit, there are some pretty short skirts....) But me? I was intrigued by them. I really don't know what her problem was with them, some months before I started getting interested in them she would rant about them for no reason. As a matter of fact that is how I even knew they existed. So, back to when she and I were in Walmart. She looked at them and sneered, walking on. But me, I stopped to look. The dolls that were the most prominent were the Classroom ones. Frankie, Ghoulia, and Lagoona dolls took up most of the small section. As I looked closer, I saw all the joints they had, and my curiosity about how well they could pose got the better of me. I inspected them closely to see which one I wanted, and my eyes finally fell on the doll that made me addicted. Home Ick Frankie Stein.
I bought her then brought her home, worried by what my parents would say. I stepped inside and told my dad I bought a doll, and all he said was:
"Whatever makes you happy."
After that, I got addicted. It was some months before I bought my next two dolls for my birthday, Mad Science Lagoona Blue and Schools Out/Basic Wave 2 Cleo De Nile. Now I own over 80.
Oh dear, I haven't even got to why I was typing in the first place. That will be under the cut.
So, my first around 10-15 dolls were only the big boxed dolls, like Ghouls Rule and Classroom, because I thought that they were better than the budget dolls, even though at the time I didn't have any. My opinion changed after I got the Skull Shores line though. I thought that for sure the budget dolls were lesser in quality than the deluxe dolls, but then I got the Skull Shores dolls out of their boxes. I was surprised that these dolls were practically the same. Strip them of their clothes and you practically have the exact same doll, just the deluxe doll might have a fancier hairdo and different makeup. This was where I started to look closer at the dolls before purchasing them.
A while later I noticed that I was buying more budget dolls rather than the deluxe dolls. I thought that the Dead Tired dolls were cute with their little shoes and nightwear, the Skultimate Roller Maze dolls were so cool with their skates with wheels that actually turned and neon green stands. (Remember back when budget dolls came with stands? Ahh, good times.) The deluxe lines were 'meh' to me. The only Scaris deluxe dolls I liked were all the new characters. As a matter of fact, this was when I only started buying deluxe dolls when they were new characters. I saw no need in having a new Lala or Frankie when they were deluxe dolls. A recent example was around two months ago, I went to Toys R' Us and came out with Art Class Lala and Coffin Bean Frankie. Art Class Lala is deluxe doll, Coffin Bean Frankie is a budget doll. I took them both out of their boxes and......I was so dissapointed in Lala. There is just nothing new here. Yeah, her shoes are pretty great and she has a yellow streak in her hair but that's about it. But I love Frankie! The yellow streaks in her hair, her shoes, that little mug she comes with........I didn't regret buying her.
Sadly, i'm moving on. I'm still going to buy MH dolls, but only when a new character comes out that intrigues me, or if I like one of the budget dolls. Buying MH dolls can get costly, which is the biggest reason i'm going to majorly slow down. Instead, I have something else to (semi) take it's place, which I will tell in the next post.
Thanks for reading!
